Some may have heard it said that Minnesota is no place for the weak! You have to be able to take sub-zero temps often and lots of the fluffy white stuff. Today it has been snowing heavily non-stop. It is supposed to continue into tomorrow. Luckily the wind won’t start until later this evening. Since today Mario turned 6 years old, we all decided a pizza cook out would make it extra special. Plus it always helps us to remember how warm it was in Minnesota and how we actually do receive summer at some point.
I made up ciabatta dough at 2:00 p.m. and the pizza is all ready to go in the oven at just short of 5:00 p.m. You’ve got to love that recipe. My 11-year-old Caleb has the fire roaring out there but we await the guests who just drove in commenting, “Holy smokes, you can’t even see the road.” We are protected by the grove of pines so it seems better out than it actually is. As always though it is so nice to be able to spend these special days surrounded by family. My son-in-law should be able to make it soon and then the party will begin!
The bees were still alive this morning when Marisa checked them but we are anticipating more severe cold weather. One can only pray and if they do not make it we will fill them with new packaged bees. Our new order is being mailed tomorrow for a quite a few of the 3 pound package bees. Marisa has decided on a mix of Italian and Minnesota Hygienic bees for this season. It is a large order so we will need to make sure it is in the mail tomorrow. This could be a problem considering the mailman barely made it through today.
For now we continue to enjoy our lives, count our blessings and dream of the spring that, no doubt, will eventually arrive!

What a nice surprise to hear from you, my hero gardener. Too bad you did not try
the bees years ago as it has added much fun and learning to our farm life.
